Delphis Sonny Bergdahl, 74, died Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Friday, June 29, 2007 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Mark Helgeland officiating. Burial will follow at Clearwater Cemetery, near Plummer, MN. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Ekelund Holmstrom Post #117 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2793.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, June 28, 2007 with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral at church.
Delphis Clyde Bergdahl was born on October 31, 1932 in the Plummer/Hazel area on the family farm the son Theodore and Anna (Bolstad) Bergdahl. He was baptized and confirmed at the Clearwater Lutheran Church near Plummer, MN and attended country school through the 8th grade. Sonny worked at home on the family farm and later worked for a farmer in Cando, ND.
On January 19, 1953 Sonny, entered into service with the United States Army and served his country in Germany during the Korean War and on August 6, 1954 he was Honorably Discharged. Following his discharge, Sonny returned to the Oklee, MN area and later moved to St. Hilaire where he met his future wife, Ordell Burstad. The couple was married February 11, 1961 at the First Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and has made their home here since.
Sonny worked at Consumers Co-Op and while working here he went to Accounting School in Thief River Falls. He later worked at Lynns Motor Supply and Herschel Manufacturing as a sales rep. for 28 years and Sonny retired in December of 1997.
He enjoyed his daily card games with his friends at the VFW. Sonny was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Eagles Clubs in Thief River Falls.
Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Ordell of Thief River Falls; son, Scott (fianc Cindy) Bergdahl of East Grand Forks, MN; daughter, Stacy (Fred) Hartmann of Thief River Falls; 4 grandchildren, Ryan, Tyson, Megan, and Grant; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Duane, Glynn (Lenore), Doug (Alyce), and sister, Adeline (Gene Brandt).
