Dennis Hanson of Thief River Falls, MN, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2017 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, with his family at his side, at the age of 81.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at St. Pauli Lutheran Church in St. Hilaire, MN, with Rev. Terri Cuppett officiating. Burial will follow at Valle Cemetery, rural Grygla, MN.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, from 5 – 7 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN, and also one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
Dennis Arne Hanson Sr. was born on August 27, 1935 in Rocksbury Township, Pennington County, MN, the son of Manuel H. Hanson and Anna S. (Arne) Hanson. He was baptized on November 14, 1935 at St. Pauli Lutheran Church and later confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Grygla, MN, on June 11, 1950. Dennis attended school in Warren, MN.
In 1958 Dennis enlisted in the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge.
In 1958 Dennis was united in marriage to Janice Sturre. Janice passed away in August of 1971. Dennis was re-married in 1978 to Dorothy Raich. Dorothy passed away in June of 2010.
Dennis worked in the Iron Ore Mines on the Iron Range until retirement. He also farmed, logged, drove semi, and dealt Blackjack.
Dennis had many interests – deer hunting, being in the outdoors, gardening, playing cards, playing pool, snowmobiling – racing – crashing – repairing – repeat as needed J He also enjoyed watching all sports and tinkering with his Ford tractors.
Dennis was a member of the American Legion and the United Steelworkers.
Dennis is survived by his children, Dennis Jr. (Wendy) Hanson of Albany, MN, Sheri (Ken) Soring of Cohasset, MN, Shelly (Dale) Laine of South St. Paul, MN, and Dennis R. Hanson of Grand Rapids, MN; grandchildren, Jessica, Holli, Christopher, and Tyler Hanson, Leslie and Janelle Soring, Brett (Molly) and Dan (Celia) Runquist, Breanna Laine, Tabitha, Bennett, Olivia, and Julia Hanson; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Mason Runquist, and AvaMae Laine; brothers, DuWayne, Harvey, Lyle, Roger, and Richard Hanson; many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his son, Todd J. Hanson; his parents, Manuel and Anna Hanson; brothers, Dale and Harry Hanson; sister, Margie Adamson.
