Dennis Frank Monroe was born Aug. 10, 1935 in Warren, the oldest son of Arthur F. Monroe and Eleanor M. Conely Monroe. He grew up on a farm near Radium, where he attended grade school. After graduating from high school in Warren, he moved to Thief River Falls, where he went to work for Joppru Meat Company. He entered the Army in 1956 and served at Dugway Proving Grounds in Toole, Utah. Upon returning from the Army, he continued to live in Thief River Falls, where he worked initially for Border Drug Company, and later returned to Joppru Meat Company, where he continued to work for many years. While working for Joppru's, he also worked with his father in his farming operation near Radium in Comstock Township. In 1970, he joined his father and continued farming full-time until retiring in 1989, while continuing to live in Thief River Falls. Dennis is survived by his three sons, John of Isanti; Dean and wife Tami of Prescott, Ariz., and Mark and wife Jennifer, with granddaughter Bryce and grandson Casey of Prior Lake; his special friend and companion, Burnell Shull. Also surviving are his brother, Peter and wife Jan, with nephew Hunter and niece Madison of Golden, Colorado; and two aunts and many cousins. Dennis was named after his two great-grandfathers. His maternal great-grandfather, Dennis Conely, was an early pioneer in Thief River Falls, with several streets on the east side of town named after his sons and daughters. His paternal great-grandfather, Frank Monroe, moved from southern Minnesota to Warren in 1888 and began farming in McCrea and Comstock townships of Marshall County.
