Obituary

Diane Marie Brumwell, 57, died on Friday, July 21, 2006, following a courageous battle with cancer, at Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Tim Bushy presiding. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, July 24, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service and also at the church for one hour prior to service on Tuesday.

Diane Marie Braun was born on August 11, 1948 in Blackduck, MN, the daughter of Albert and Joan (Steifel) Braun. She attended school in Blackduck and graduated from Blackduck High School in 1966. Following High School she attended Bemidji State University, majoring in Sociology and Psychology and minoring in Business, graduating in 1970. Diane moved to Red Lake Falls and worked at Catholic Social Service as Adoption Supervisor. She also worked as School Social worker at MSB and Sacred Heart in Crookston, MN, later serving as Director until 1979.

Diane was united in marriage on June 24, 1972 to Dick Brumwell at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. She raised their children and worked at home as bookkeeper for Brumwell Oil Company until 1985, when she became lead tubing instructor at Voyageurs View and also a Rehab Specialist.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Guild, Red Lake Falls Youth Council, served on the State Board of Tourism, Swimming Pool Committee President, Red Lake Falls Civic and Commerce, Riverland Association Board of Directors, a participant in Relay for Life and she established the Hoops for Hope Charity Basketball Tournament.

Diane enjoyed her flower gardens, reading, writing, traveling, fish frys, and especially spending time with her husband, Dick, her children and grandchildren. She was very family orientated. Diane was a good German with a wonderful sense of humor, compassionate, had a positive attitude and was very thankful and forgiving.

Diane is survived by her husband, Dick of Red Lake Falls, MN; children: Heather (Stuart) Altendorf of Red Lake Falls, MN, Stephanie (Joe Lolich) Brumwell of St. Louis Park, MN, and Ryan Brumwell of Red Lake Falls, and Jason Brumwell of Red Lake Falls, MN; grandchildren: Preston and Allie Jo Altendorf of Red Lake Falls, MN; one brother, Lyle (Mary) Braun of Forest Lake, MN; and several other relatives and many good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Albert.
