On Saturday, December 19, Dick Sculthorp, passed away peacefully at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND with his son Tony, and daughter Stephanie, and the love of other family members surrounding him.
Date of Birth: Jan 28, 1944, Son of Ronald and Irene (Steinhauer) Sculthorp,
Born and raised in Thief River Falls, he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1962.
Dick enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1964 and was honorably discharged in 1965.
Married Susan (Brezney) Sculthorp on September 18, 1971, they resided in Thief River Falls and raised their family.
In his youth Dick was very involved in Boy Scouts, boating, teaching his sisters and friends how to water ski and working with his Dad Ronnie. Later in life he shared those loves with his family and was again active with Boy Scouts by helping his sons in progress from Cub to Boy Scouts while instilling the love of Scouting in all his children.
Dick worked for the United States Postal Service for 33 years until his retirement in 1999, many of those years at the front counter greeting the community he loved. After retirement he worked for a family friend on their farm till he retired again in 2006.
He lived in Thief River Falls, Minnesota until 2007 when he moved to Moorhead, MN to be closer to 2 of his children and grandchild.
Hobbies included Boy Scouts, TRF Snow Drifters, Bowling, Trap Shooting, RailRoad Club. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, hunting, boating, helping out on his cousins' farm and watching all Minnesota sports, especially Twins and Vikings, always with his loving cat Tiger by his side.
Dick was especially proud and honored to be a member of the American Legion for 50 years.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents Ronald and Irene Sculthorp and wife Susan Sculthorp, brother Jim Sculthorp, son Jack Sculthorp, and other family and friends who proceeded him on the journey.
Survived by son Tony (Eve) Sculthorp, of Las Vegas, NV; daughter Stephanie (Brandon) Skrei of Moorhead, MN. Three grandchildren, five step grandchildren, and great grandchildren; his Sisters: Bonnie (Virgil) Wagner, Middle River, MN; Sheryl (Loren) Nowacki, Grand Forks, ND; Mary (Rick) Nordhagen, Thief River Falls, MN, and sister in law Diane (Jim) Sculthorp, St. Anthony, MN; several cousins in the Thief River Falls area, and his nieces and nephews.
The family requests no flowers, they would be honored if you would donate to a Minnesota Wildlife charity, Cancer research or any charity of your choice in Dick's memory.
Viewing will be at the Johnson Green Funeral Home at 4:00 pm until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 22, 2020.
Private service will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, December 23, 2020 with Reverend Kevin Hackney officiating. Immediately following the service, Dick will be laid to rest next to his wife and parents at Greenwood Cemetery where Military Honors will be held.
Celebration of life will be held sometime in the summer of 2021, the family welcomes all to come and share stories with Dick's loved ones and enjoy some of his favorite treats.
The family is thankful for the incredible staff, Nurses, and Doctors of Essentia health and the traveling nurses and Air Force Nurses offering support to our communities and especially to Dick and his family.
