Don Schmidt, 63, died Friday, September 1, 2006 at his residence near Goodridge, MN.

Don Schmidt was born January 9, 1943 in Sterling, Nebraska the son of Victor and Leona Schmidt. He was baptized and confirmed in Sterling, where he graduated from high school. He continued his education at Peru State College, where he received his BA and Oklahoma State College where he received his PhD.

Don taught Biochemistry at Lake Charles College, Lake Charles, LA and has farmed near Grygla since 1970. On September 14, 2002, Don was united in marriage to Kay Selnes.

He loved waterskiing, was an avid basketball fan, attending all Grygla basketball games. He enjoyed spending time at their place on Lake of the Woods.

Don is survived by wife, Kay Selnes Schmidt, Grygla; step daughter Lori Braun, West Fargo, ND; step grandchildren Ken and Caleb, West Fargo; parents Victor and Leona Schmidt, Sterling, Neb; brother Darrell (Judi) Schmidt, Sterling, Neb; sisters Dianne (Roger) Weitzenkamp, Doloras, Co, Donita (Lennart) Swenson, Wilsonville, OR; mother in law Lorraine Selnes, East Grand Forks, MN; brother in law Rex (Judy) Selnes, Mesa, Az; sisters in law Joy (Ed) Bader, Baudette, MN, Marcy (Jerry) Miller, Great Falls, MT; 2 nephews and a niece, along with several cousins.

He is preceded in death by his brother Duane and both maternal and paternal grandparents.
