Obituary

Dona Rock, 79, died on Monday, February 18, 2008 at Golden Palms Nursing Home in Harlingen, TX.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 29, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks, MN with Father Antony Fernando and Father Dave Super presiding. Burial will be in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Terrebonne, MN.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks, MN with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Dona Ray Rock was born on July 6, 1928 in Terrebonne Township, Red Lake County, MN. He was the son of George and Clara (Perreault) Rock. He attended Terrebonne District #237 School and took a three year agricultural course. He served in the United States Navy from 1946-1948.

Dona was united in marriage to Joyce Elaine Boucher in 1952 at St. Anns Catholic Church in Crookston. He was a dairyman from 1950-1969 and was named 1963 Honor Dairyman. His farm became a Century Farm in 1987. He was also awarded the Agency for International Development Certificate of Cooperation in 1966 and won the Individual Soil Conservation Award in 1968. In 1986, he received a Production Credit and Farm Credit Service recognition plaque. Dona served as a director on the Brooks Farmers Credit Oil Company for 22 years, FHA director for 16 years, Production Credit of Thief River Falls for 20 years and Farm Credit Services of Grand Forks for 2 years. He also served on the Terrebonne Township Board, Red Lake County ASC committeeman and served as a soil conservation supervisor. He was a member of the Minnesota Wheat Growers Association, American Legion and Eagles Club, St. Josephs Parish in Brooks, and served on the cemetery board and council of St. Anthonys Parish of Terrebonne.

Dona is survived by his wife, Joyce of Mentor, MN; six children: David (Karen) Rock of Mentor, MN, Douglas (Karen) Rock of Hagerstown, MD, Peggy (Robert) Orrock of Becker, MN, Pam Paradis of Brooks, MN, Valerie (John) Walker of Crookston, MN and Vanessa (Wayne) Ballantine of Elk River, MN; grandchildren: Christopher (Kari) Rock, Adam (Jessica) Rock, Kimberly Rock, Garrett Rock, Heidi Rock, Tyler Rock, Tony Martell, Frances (Greg) Kipka, Cody Martell, Grant Orrock, David Weller, Ryan, Chelsey and Ethan Paradis, Kallie and Kolten Walker and Ian Ballantine; great grandchildren: Sydney, Cayden, Hunter and Makenzie Rock, Tina and Kylee Martell and Skylar and Grayson Kipka; sisters: twin sister, Madonna (Lloyd) LaBore of White Bear Lake, MN, Monica (Harlan) Hanson of Santa Rosa, CA, Gloria (Louis) Demarais of Hazen, ND; brother-in-law, Medore Lussier of Lander, WY; sister-in-law, Dorothy Rock of Crookston, MN; special friends of the family, Dick, Linda, Michael, Shawna and Tara Velzke; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brother, Lawrence, Elmer and Lester; one sister, Geneva Lussier; and two sons, Mitchell and Michael.
