Donald Amiot, 82, of Red Lake Falls, MN died on Friday, April 6, 2012 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 11:00 AM in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Chuck Huck Officiating. Burial will be held in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5 - 8 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls and also one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Donald Patrick Amiot was born March 17, 1930 at home near Red Lake Falls, son of the late Oscar and Angelina (Tougas) Amiot. He attended rural grade school and graduated from Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls class of 1948. On June 2, 1951 he was united in marriage to Kathleen Dufault at St. Peter Catholic Church in Gentilly, MN. They took over the family farm until they retired in 2000 and moved to Red Lake Falls, handing the farming operation over to their son Kevin. Don also drove school bus for 11 years and was bus foreman for a few years while farming. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He also served on the local school board, the Soil Conservation Board, and the Brooks Elevator Board. Don enjoyed camping, fishing and snowmobiling. He also loved to travel with his wife and family. He often had a story of old times to share; especially stories of his dad during the Prohibition years. He dearly loved all aspects of farming, mostly driving tractors and combines. It meant the world to him that his son shared that passion and he could continue to be involved, even if it was simply giving a ride out to the fields. He will always be remembered for the twinkle in his eye and his sense of humor and quick wit. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kathleen Amiot of Red Lake Falls, MN; children Bonni (Val) Buchmeier of Crookston, MN; Deb (Rick) Schue of Fargo, ND; Curt (Mary) Amiot of Rochester, MN; Ramona (Gary) Thibert of Red Lake Falls, MN and Kevin (Deb) Amiot of Red Lake Fall, MN: grandchildren Heidi (Brian) Veith, Justin (Shonna) Buchmeier, Kyle Buchmeier, Eric Buchmeier, Rachel Buchmeier, Alisyn Buchmeier, Jeremy (Jenny) Schue, Tami (Kris) Garberg, Randy Schue, Michelle Amiot, Pat Amiot, Brian Amiot, Bridget Amiot, Mathew Thibert, Alyssa Thibert, Derek Thibert, Kadie Amiot, Ryan Amiot and Bella Amiot: great-grandchildren Haydn and Cole Veith, Colin Buchmeier and Kenna Garberg.
