Donald Oliver Brekke was born January 6, 1930 son of Leonard and Elna (Peterson) Brekke in Red Lake County, MN. He grew up in Plummer and attended Pershing High School. Don entered the US Army and served his country. Following his honorable discharge he was united in marriage to Gail Adeline Knutson. He returned to the Plummer area where he worked construction and also worked for the pipeline.

Don owned and operated Brekke Digging for over 15 years. He also worked for the pipeline, which carried him all over the country including Alaska and Canada. He also had a hobby farm with a few cattle and 50 acres of wheat.

He was a member of the Thief River Falls American Legion; Immanuel Lutheran Church, International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49 close to 40 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, listening to sports including the Vikings and Twins and the Timber wolves. He also enjoyed country music and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Gail of Plummer, MN; four sons Bob (Sue) Brekke of Vergas, MN; Brian Brekke of Fargo, ND; Jay (Pam) of Menomonee, WI; and Mickey (Nancie) Brekke of Thief River Falls, MN; one step son Terry (Annette) Knutson of Vadnais Heights, MN. 11 Grandkids: Jessica & Shelly Knutson, Bobbi Sue, Michael, Jonnie, Josh, Doug, Stephanie, Derek, Jenna, and Macie Brekke; two brothers Leonard (Vivian) Brekke of Thief River Falls, MN; Leroy (Lila) Brekke of Scottsdale, AZ: three sisters Lillian Fournier of Chinook MT; Ruth (Maurice) Perreault of Bellingham, WA; and Delores Donarski of Grand Forks, ND; several nieces and nephews.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Walter, Joe and Willmar; 2 sisters Elaine, and Marie; and daughter in law Connie Brekke.

Donald Brekke died Wednesday, October 16, 2002 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND at the age of 72 years, 9 months and 10 days. May his memory be blessed.
