Donald Fournier, 84, of Oklee, MN died on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, October 11, 2012 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee, MN with Father Chuck Huck presiding. Burial will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, rural Oklee, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Oklee, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Thursday at the church. Donald Dean Fournier was born on March 3, 1928 on the family farm at Badger Creek in Red Lake County, MN the son of George and Dora (LaPlante) Fournier. He was baptized on March 4, 1928 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Terrebonne, MN. In 1946, Donald graduated from Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls, MN. On June 6, 1946, Donald entered into service with the United States Navy in Minneapolis, MN. He served as a Seaman USN and was Honorably Discharged on April 5, 1948 at the U.S. Naval Station in San Diego, CA. Donald was united in marriage on June 14, 1951 to Dorothy Marie Newman in Thief River Falls, MN. The couple made their home in Brooks, MN. They operated the Corner Bar for a couple of years, and then they moved to Thief River Falls where Don went to work on the railroad. They also lived in Hazel and Brooks before moving to Oklee in 1955. Together they ran a dry cleaning business, numerous restaurants, a mink ranch, and had many other odd jobs. In 1957 Don went to work for the United States Postal Service and served for the next 30 years as a rural carrier. He enjoyed wine making, fishing, snowmobiling, dancing, hunting, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. Don and Dorothy loved their summers at Leech Lake at their cabin. Don was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee, MN. Survivors include children, Kathie (Terry) Roy of Sturgeon Lake, MN, Jim (Marie) Fournier of Moorhead, MN, Nancy (Randy) Magnell of Oklee, MN, Mark (Ali) Fournier of Dent, MN and Karen (Dennis) Nelson of Frazee, MN; grandchildren, Shannon (Ryan) Hoffmann, Travis Roy, Trevor (Sheila) Roy, Craig (Michelle) Magnell, Troy (Amber) Magnell, Isaac (Emily) Magnell, Jennifer Magnell, Joshua Nelson, Tabitha (Brett) Syverson, and Megan Fournier; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Macie & Averie Hoffmann, Sophie Roy, Tanner, Ian, Brock, & Carter Magnell, Easton Magnell, Clowie, Eli & Liam Magnell, Osmund Syverson, and one due in December; sister, Joyce (Jim) Lussier of Summerville, SC; sister-in-law, Marie Fournier of Columbus, OH; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy in 2004; and brother, Lloyd in 2012.
