Donald Hanson, 84, died Friday, August 23, 2002, at Northwest Medical Center, CNC Unit, Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at the Johnson Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, MN, with Reverend Tim Bauer officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.
Visitation will be from 4 " 8 PM., Monday, August 26, 2002, at the Johnson Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, MN, with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Tuesday.
Donald Archie Hanson was born on June 28, 1918, in Spooner, Minnesota, the son of Andrew and Dora (Lindahl) Hanson. He attended school in Baudette, Hazel and Thief River Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1936. Following high school he worked in Thief River Falls and Los Angeles, CA, before entering the Army in 1943. He completed training in aircraft radio operation and instrument landing systems and served with the 70th Army Airways Communication system on Guam and Iwo Jima.
Following his discharge from the Army in 1946, he moved to Detroit, MI, where he worked in auto repair. He moved back to Thief River Falls in 1953 to open D & K Collision Service with his brother Kermit. Donald and Kermit operated the shop until 1983.
Donald was a reserved man who had a passion for learning. He was well read in history, geography, literature, science, and current events. He had a life-long interest in art and his family will long enjoy the landscape paintings he left behind.
Donald is survived by one niece, Katherine Hanson, St. Paul, MN; one nephew, Charles Hanson, Moorhead, MN; sister in law, Dorothy Hanson, Thief River Falls; cousins: Luvern Lindahl and Grace Brown, both Thief River Falls, MN, Glen Lindahl, Dubuque, IA, Aldyne Salmi, Daphne, AL, and Carol Mathieson, Palm Springs, CA.
He was preceded in death by his mother Dora in 1964; his father Andrew in 1969; three infant brothers and his brother, Kermit in 1998.
