Donald "Don" Jorstad, 76, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at his home in Red Lake Falls, MN. Memorial services will be Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 11:00 AM in Bethany Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Pastor Tom Potter Officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Donald "Don" Harold Jorstad was born June 14, 1938, in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Harold and Gladys (Nelson) Jorstad. He was baptized at Telemarken Lutheran Church, Kratka, MN and confirmed at Mavie Lutheran, Mavie, MN. He attended Knox Elementary School in Thief River Falls, MN and graduated from Lincoln High School, Thief River Falls. Don then went on to Brown Institute and vocational classes at Bemidji State. Don served 9 years with the Minnesota and North Dakota National Guard and was on active duty from 1961-1962 with the 231st Medical Company. On March 25, 1961, Don was united in marriage to Marilyn Odegaard. To this union 4 sons were born. He married Pat Venema on July 3, 1993. He married Joyce Legg Olson on June 24, 2012. Don worked for radio and TV in 13 different markets. He also worked in sport sales, he was the "voice" of Cross County snowmobile racing, the Northland Pioneers, and also DMC Moto-Cross. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. He was a member and served as Lt. Governor of the Kiwanis, President of Thief River Golf Club (1991-1992), member of The American Legion Ecklund-Holstrom Post #117 and a member of Homeland Security RRC3. Don is survived by his wife Joyce, Red Lake Falls, MN; sons: Steven (Elaine), Fargo, ND; Roby Dale (Jennifer), Ft. Campbell, KY; Scott, Thief River Falls, MN; and Bradley (Traci) Maryville, TN, grandchildren: Tyson, Noah, Brady, Rileigh, Jacob, Nick (Andrea), Justin, Ethan, Carrie, Delainie and Abbie; great grandchildren: Kaycee and Karlee Jorstad, Joyce's children Tron (Kelly) Olson, of Wildrose, ND, Brent (Cassandra) Olson of Thief River Falls, MN, Tricia (Brent) Gaffke of Cushing, MN their children Aaron Olson, Jennifer (Rick) Bourassa their children Alyssa and Tate, Garrett Olson of Thief River Falls, MN, Kyle Olson of Thief River Falls, MN, Chelsey (Paige) Olson and Blaine Olson of Thief River Falls, MN, Desmond Janousek of San Antonio, TX, Devin Janousek of Thief River Falls, MN, Beau Janousek of Cushing, MN. Don was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Gladys Jorstad, grandparents, Oscar and Annie Nelson and Hans and Ingaborg Jorstad, his sons mother Marilyn "Tiny" Jorstad, brothers, Robert and Ralph and a sister-in-law, Diane.
