Obituary








Donald L. Ste. Marie, 76, of Red lake Falls, MN died on Monday, October 26, 1998 at Pioneer Memorial Home in Erskine, MN. Petterson Funeral Home in Red Lake Falls in charge of arrangements.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, October 30, 1998 at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Tim Bushy Officiating. Burial will be held in the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery at Terrebonne, MN.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 " 8 PM with a 7:30 prayer service at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls and also one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.
Donald Louis Ste. Marie was born October 27, 1921 at Terrebonne, MN son of Joseph W. and Emma (St. Yves) Ste. Marie where he was raised and attended school. Donald graduated from the Crookston Agricultural School in 1940. On April 12, 1945 he was united in marriage to Zola Haaland at Terrebonne, MN. The couple lived and farmed in the Terrebonne area until their retirement in 1982 when they moved into Red Lake Falls, MN.
Don served as county commissioner for 8 years and served on the Hillcrest Nursing home board for 8 years, the Red River Valley Development board for 25 years, was currently serving on the Bray-Gentilly Ins. Company board of directors, enjoyed and attended all school boys and girls sports events. He delivered meals on wheels, was active in the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters. The couple were Valley Farmer and homemakers award winners at the Winter shows in 1964 and he was outstanding Sr. citizen in 1996, a member of the Afran and the Red Lake County Saddle Club.
Donald is survived by his wife Zola of Red Lake Falls, MN; six children Michael Ste. Marie (Susan) of Fargo, ND, Stephen Ste. Marie (Karan) of Bloomington, MN, Alan Ste. Marie (Jeannette) of Red Lake Falls, MN, David Ste. Marie (Vicki) of Red Lake Falls, MN, Kathryn Cota (Michael) of Moorhead, MN and Kenneth Ste. Marie (Patty) of Fargo, ND. Thirteen Grandchildren Melissa, Erik Matt Ste. Marie of Bloomington, MN, Michael and Christopher Ste. Marie of Fargo, ND, Michaela and Mackenzie Ste. Marie of Fargo, ND, Dominic and Jill Ste. Marie of Red Lake Falls, MN, Chad and Rachel Cota of Moorhead, MN and Chad and Kelli Ste. Marie of Red Lake Falls, MN. Brothers and sisters Reaume Ste. Marie (Alyce) of Seattle, WA, Richard Ste. Marie (Patricia) Sonoma, CA, Isabelle Korman of Bayport, MN, Elise Ste. Marie of Seattle, WA, Harriet Mehr (Alver) of Richmond, MN, Eraine Schmit (Walter) of St. Paul, MN, Lucy Higgins of Seattle, WA and Carole Vammen of Aberdeen, WA: Many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Emma Ste. Marie, three brothers in law Lawrence Korman, James Higgins and Floyd Vammen, infant sister Lenore.
