Donald "Chubby" Paradis Brooks, MN, 77, died on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at Hillcrest Senior Living Center, Red Lake Falls, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks, MN with Father Chuck Huck presiding. Burial will be held at St. Anthony Cemetery in Terrebonne, MN. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 20, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service led by Deacon John Bruggeman at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks, MN. Donald Gerald Paradis was born June 3, 1936 at home on the family farm in Terrebonne Township, Red Lake County, MN, the son of the late Ernest and Dora (Laundry) Paradis. He was baptized in July of 1936 and later confirmed into the Catholic faith at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Terrebonne. Don attended the Terrebonne School in Terrebonne and Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls, MN. At an early age, Donald was lovingly given the nickname of "Chubby". The name he carried throughout his life. In 1955, Donald, together with his brother, Mark, proudly enlisted in the United States Army. Donald and Mark were stationed in Germany for the majority of their time in the service. They were honorably discharged in January of 1958. After being discharged from the army, Chubby moved to South Milwaukee where he worked at Crane Manufacturing in Cudahy, WI. In the mid-1970's he returned to live in Brooks, MN. Chubby worked at Hydra-Mac in Thief River Falls, MN and later at American Crystal Sugar in Crookston, MN. In his retirement, Chubby worked for a time for Joe Mercil at Northland Vault in Brooks, MN. Chubby enjoyed playing cards, supervising his nephews & nieces, going to the casino, and spending time with family and friends. Donald held membership in the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by; sisters: Henriette (Jim) Stich, Red Lake Falls, MN, Ruth Carriere, South Milwaukee, WI, Irene (Al Henkel) Miller, Red Lake Falls, MN, Grace (Duane) Stucy, Pound, WI and Patricia Brower, Las Vegas, NV; sisters-in-law, Dellas Paradis, Phoeba Paradis, and Donna Paradis; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by parents; siblings, Elizabeth (Adelore) Paquin, Ronald Paradis, Robert Paradis, Mark Paradis, and Thomas Paradis; brothers-in-law, Onezime Champagne, Alfred Carriere, Richard Mussatti, and Robert Miller.
