Donald Gene Ray, age 68, of Thief River Falls, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on November 11, 1956, in Red Lake, Minnesota, Donald was the son of Donald Gene Ray Sr. and Audrey Johnson (née Holthusen).

Donald spent most of his working years in maintenance and truck driving for Thygeson Construction in Thief River Falls. Known for his strong work ethic and reliability, he was respected by colleagues and friends alike.

Outside of work, Donald found joy in the outdoors and cherished time spent with family. He loved boating, ATV riding, music, fishing, and hunting, and was happiest when surrounded by loved ones—especially his beloved wife, Cindy Ray.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Ray; daughter, Angela Ray; son, Jeremy Ray; grandchildren, Isaac Ray, Jamie Hinz, Kayanna Plata, Hailey Hinz, and Carly Hinz; his mother, Audrey Johnson; sister, Linda Jansen; brother, Greg Johnson; and sister, Sherrlene Watne. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews who will miss him dearly.

Donald was preceded in death by his father, Donald Ray Sr., and sister, Voreen Johnson.

He will be remembered for his warmth, his love of nature, and the deep devotion he had for his family. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A private celebration of life for Donald will be held.
