Donald E. Schmidt, 71, of Red Lake Falls, MN died on Wednesday, January 5, 2000 on arrival at Riverview Hospital in Crookston, MN. Arrangements with the Petterson Funeral Home in Red Lake Falls, MN.

Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2000 at 2:00 PM in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Tim Bushy Officiating. Burial will be held in the St. Joseph Church Cemetery in the spring.

No Visitation will be held.

Donald Edward Schmidt was born July 4, 1928 son of Joseph and Frances (Hirsch) Schmidt at Red Lake Falls, MN. He was baptized, made his first communion and confirmed at St. Marys Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. He grew up in Red Lake Falls and graduated in 1947 from Lafayette High School. After graduating he worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad and the American Crystal Sugar Co in East Grand Forks. Don was inducted into the US Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton California in 1952 and spent his enlistment in Hawaii. Following his honorable discharge in 1954 he was employed by Northern States Power in Red Lake Falls and later transferring to Grand Forks until his retirement in 1986. Don has resided in Red Lake Falls since his retirement.

Donald is survived by his sister Bernardine Schmidt of Red Lake Falls, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Teresa Hanson and Marcella Helland and one brother Bernard Schmidt.
