Obituary

Donald Walker, 82, died Sunday, August 8, 2004 at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Red Lake Falls, MN.

Donald Walker was born May 3, 1922 to Clayton and Hope (Jensen) Walker, on the family farm east of Red Lake Falls, where he lived his entire life. He attended rural school and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1938.

Donald was united in marriage to Florence Keim on June 19, 1947 in Red Lake Falls. To this union six children were born. Don served in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946 as seaman first class. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1944 and was Past Master of Red Lake Falls Lodge #308 and Northern Lodge #236. He was a member of the American Legion since 1949 and was a past commander. He served as chairman of the local Selective Service Board for 20 years.

Donald was a charter member and president of the Red Lake County Dairy Herd Improvement Association, vice president of the Northwest Breeders Co-op in Roseau, executive board member of the Consolidated Breeders Co-op in Anoka and helped organize Midwest Breeders Co-op in Shawano, Wisconsin. He was a breeder of registered Holstein cattle and a life member of the Holstein Friesian Association of America. He was cattle superintendent at the county fair for several years. He also was chairman of the Red Lake County Dairy Association for many years.

Donald was an accordion player in various bands since his teen years and drove school bus for 20 years.

He is survived by wife, Florence, Red Lake Falls, MN; children Alan (Pam), Red Lake Falls, MN; Lloyd (Charlene), Grafton, ND; Arlene (Derald) Mercil, Argyle, MN; Brian (Gayle) Eagan, MN; Diane (David) Malcomson, Rochester, MN; 14 grandchildren: Amy, Becky, Katie, Andy, Sarah, Jenny, Tammy, Mike, Jon, Amber, Aaron, Zane, Tyler, Rayna, 2 great grandchildren, Jacob and Isaac, sister Sharon (Allen) DuPont, Red Lake Falls, MN; many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, one brother Philip Walker, and one son Paul Walker.
