Donna Margie Peterson, beloved mother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Newfolden, MN, on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the age of 94. Having lived a life rich with faith, love, and quiet accomplishment, Donna’s presence touched many near and far. She now rests with her Lord.
Born on June 2, 1934, in Folden Township, Donna was the daughter of Edwin and Mable Hanson. She spent her early years learning and exploring in her hometown, attending Pioneer Grade School and graduating from Newfolden High School in 1952. Her desire to see more of the world led her to Chicago, Illinois, where she began her working life shortly after high school graduation. It was there she embraced new opportunities before returning home.
On November 1, 1953, Donna was united in marriage to Howard Peterson in Strathcona, MN, by Pastor Edward Folden, Donna's Uncle. Together they made their home in the Holt area where they farmed and started a family.
In 1963, the family moved to Euclid, MN. Donna started working for the Jiffy Fry Potato Company in Crookston, MN, from 1970 until she returned to the Newfolden area. Her dedication and work ethic were evident in all she did, both professionally and at home.
Donna’s life was defined not only by her career but by her devotion to her family and her countless interests. She instilled strong Christian values in her children and was profoundly proud to see Linda, Gary, and Allen grow into good Christian individuals. Donna’s love for her children was unmatched.
She was a woman of many talents and gentle passions. Donna was known for her love of reading—the Bible held a cherished place in her heart, as did inspirational stories and cookbooks. She had an affinity for gardening, tending with care and joy to the world around her. Always resourceful, she taught herself to knit, crafting warm and loving clothes for her family, and made her own birdhouses through woodworking—each a symbol of her creative spirit. She delighted in feeding birds and deer, fostering a peaceful sanctuary at her home. Donna also loved to fish, whether through the ice in winter or by the shores in summer, and she had a remarkable knack for handling whatever challenges came her way—including, when needed, the occasional use of a gun.
Those who knew Donna can recall the sounds of Southern Gospel music filling her house, reflecting her vibrant yet gentle soul. Her humor, kindness, and steadfast diligence made her an inspiration to all who met her. She leaves behind warm memories and an enduring legacy of hard work, laughter, and faith.
Donna is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Mable Hanson; her brothers, Omer Hanson and Ronald Lee Hanson; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norman and Anne Peterson; and her brother-in-law, Raymond Peterson, and sister-in-law, Susie Peterson. Their memories remain cherished alongside Donna’s by those who survive her.
A visitation in Donna’s memory will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church, located at 128 2nd St, Newfolden, MN 56738. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the same location.
Donna Margie Peterson’s life was an example of grace, perseverance, and faith. She leaves behind a loving family, grateful friends, and a community that will always remember her gentle spirit and unwavering kindness.
