Obituary

Doreen Amundson, 71, died on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND with her loving daughter, Patti at her side.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, February 1, 2010 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN with Pastor Sheila Michaels officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden, MN.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM with a 5:00 PM prayer service at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Monday at the church.

Doreen Audrey Kvemshagen was born on October 9, 1938 in Fargo, ND the daughter of Odin and Mabel (Skjervheim) Kvemshagen. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in Northwood, ND. Doreen attended country school near Kempton, ND and graduated from Northwood High School in 1956.

Doreen attended and graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN in 1962 where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with minors in History and Political Science. She began her teaching career at the Elementary School in Newfolden, MN in February 1959 where she taught first grade.

On December 28, 1962 she was united in marriage to Rolland Amundson at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northwood, ND. The couple made their home in Newfolden until moving to the Amundson family farm in 1970. To this union a daughter, Patricia was born in 1974.

Following Pattis birth, Doreen stayed home to raise her daughter; she also helped Rolland on the farm and did some substitute teaching in Strandquist and Middle River. In 1992, Doreen started working part-time at Digi-Key in Thief River Falls. She retired in 2008 so she could be home for the grandkids when they got off the school bus.

She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden where she was very active. She was involved in the Newfolden Nifties Homemakers Club; Doreen served on the Marshall County Central School Board from 1984 until 1997; and had volunteered at the Newfolden Elementary School Library for the last couple of years.

Doreen enjoyed crocheting; she made caps, prayer shawls, angels, doilies and many other items she also enjoyed sewing, rosemaling, hardanger, knitting and any crafts; and was an avid reader. Doreen especially loved and enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, Ty, Tessa, and Trig.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia (Jason) Anderson of Newfolden, MN; grandchildren, Ty, Tessa and Trig; special cousin and friend, Darlene Schreader of Forest Lake, MN; she is also survived by other cousins, and many special friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Rolland in 2000; her parents; cousin, Verlyn Ness; father and mother-in-law, Oscar and Tillie Amundson; and many aunts and uncles.
