Doris Augustine, 90, of Thief River Falls, MN formerly of Holt, MN died on January 1, 2012 at the Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt, MN with Rev. Sheila Michaels officiating. Burial will follow at the Holt Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Thursday at Nazareth Lutheran Church. Doris Alida Larson was born on April 11, 1921 in East Valley Township, Marshall County, MN the daughter of Alfred and Lillie Sophia (Peterson) Larson. She was baptized on May 26, 1921 by the Rev. M.B. Ordahl at Mud Lake Lutheran Church and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt, MN in 1935. She attended schools at Mud Lake, Sunnyside and Holt. Doris worked for the Walter Larson family doing child care. She also worked at the Red Owl Store in Thief River Falls for four years. On December 25, 1942, Doris was united in marriage to Marlan Augustine at the "home of the bride." She traveled with Marlan during his military career until 1946. In 1946, they came home to farm on the "home farm", raising grain and hay for the dairy cows. Doris was an active member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church at Holt, where she was a member of Ladies Aide, Circle, Keenagers, and was an adult leader for Luther League. She also was an adult leader of the Holt 4-H Club and a Marshall County Homemaker. Doris was a devoted wife, mother, grandma & great-grandma. She loved music, dancing, quilting, needlework, sewing, baking, gardening, animals, playing cards with the neighbors, photography, and all of the things that a good active grandma does. Doris enjoyed organizing the photos that Marlan would take. When Marlan and Doris retired, they spent 20 winters at McAllen Mobile Park in McAllen, TX where they enjoyed their snow bird family. Survivors include daughter, Barbara (Ronald) Moe of Dalton, MN; sons, Daryl (Paulette) Augustine of Higginsville, MO and Eldon (Marla) Augustine of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren, Paul (Cindy) Moe of Ashby, MN, Michele (Philip) Isaacson of Dalton, MN, Eric (Janae) Moe of Dilworth, MN, Derek (Susan) Augustine of Higginsville, MO, Dana (Randy) Shafer of Grain Valley, MO, Matthew (special friend, Trisha Hartung) of Apple Valley, MN, Mark (Miki) Augustine of Newfolden, MN, Holly Augustine of Scottsdale, AZ; great-grandchildren, Andrea & J.P. Moe, Ben & Joe Isaacson, Evelyn & Adam Moe, Kayla, Gracie & Adam Augustine, Brenden & Allison Shafer, Kaydence & Kelby Augustine; sister, Lois (Milton) Conklin of Glenwood, MN; sister-in-law, Angeline Larson of Thief River Falls; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends & neighbors. Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Marlan on March 18, 2011; brother, Melvin "Bud" Larson; parents; and sister, Ethel (Ernie) Hanson.
