Doris Hanson of Oklee, MN passed away December 12, 2013 as a result of an automobile accident. Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at 2:00 P.M. at Zion Lutheran Church, Oklee, MN. The Reverend Margaret Jacobus officiating. Burial will be held later in spring. Community fellowship will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Oklee, MN, Monday, December 16 from 5-8 P.M. Prayer service will begin at 7:00 P.M. Community fellowship will be one hour prior to Memorial Service. Doris Joanne Sorenson was born December 21, 1937 in Garnes Township, Red Lake County, MN. She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Helen (Linder) Sorenson. She was baptized at the Oklee Parsonage and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Plummer, MN. She attended Willow Ridge Country School, Garnes Township, Plummer, from 1942-1948 (through seventh grade), then attended Plummer Public School from 1949-1955, graduating as valedictorian of her class. Doris attended Bemidji State College 1955-1958 and 1960-1961, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. On July 12, 1958, Doris was united in marriage to Elmer Arthur Hanson, at Zion Lutheran Church in Oklee, MN. Elmer was the love of her life. They made their home and raised their children in rural Oklee, MN. Among her many services to the community of Oklee, Doris served as a teacher at Oklee Public Elementary School, retiring at age 55. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, a Sunday school teacher, stewardship chairman and secretary for WELCA. She sang with the Zionettes and the chime choir. She was in a bowling league and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Doris celebrated God's gracious gift of life through her spirituality and strong faith and love of Him. She lived in His name and studied devotions daily, knowing one day she would join Him and His son, Jesus Christ in the Holy Kingdom. Some of Doris' passions; bible study, flowers and gardening, quilting, reading, baking, cooking, canning, blueberry picking, music. She was the cake baker of the family, ensuring her grandchildren had special cakes on their birthdays. Doris loved children and served as a foster parent for 25 children for 13 years. Doris was devoted to her grandchildren, great- grandchildren and foster children. She looked forward to school programs, activities as well as any/all special time with them. She was ever ready for a game of scrabble with any willing partner(s) down to her youngest grandchild. She enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends, as well as any card games. Doris treasured her family and joyfully organized gatherings throughout each year at their home. Doris is deeply loved and sorely missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Elmer, Brooks, MN; children: Karen (Bruce) Ramstorf, Ada, MN, Joel (Fiancé' Becky Meyer) Hanson, Flom, MN, Diane Hanson, Brooks, MN, Ellen (Wesley) Overbo, Christine, ND, Mary Jo (Gerald) Lothspeich, Wyndmere, ND, Cheryl Degrugillier, Plymouth, MN; grandchildren: Michael Ramstorf, Chad Ramstorf, Dora Ramstorf, Nathan Ramstorf, Avery Ramstorf, Kiley Ramstorf, Chelsea Ramstorf, Desiree Ramstorf, David Ramstorf, Jessica Jorgenson, Joshua Jorgenson, Derek Overbo, Michelle Overbo, Elizabeth Lothspeich, Tiffany Stephens, Taviah Lothspeich, Emily Lothspeich, Gabriel Lothspeich, Thomas Lothspeich, Noah Hanson, and Grant Degrugillier. Great grandchildren: Maverick Stephens, Edmond Stephens, Axel Stephens, Olivia and Emmitt Ramstorf, Alexia and Lillian Jorgenson, and Isabelle Henley. Sisters: Bernice Klenk, Middle River, MN, Rose (Harvey) Delage, Thief River Falls, MN, Laura Pederson, Williston, ND, and Carol (Korydon) Chervestad, Oklee, MN. 15 nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by parents; Ralph and Helen Sorenson, grandparents; John and Randi Sorenson and Gust and Bertine Linder. Nieces; Adeline Chervestad and Susan Torkelson. Brother in laws; Marlyn Johnson, Luverne Klenk, and Duane Pederson.
