Obituary

Doris Kaushagen, 91, died Thursday, June 1, 2006 at Oakland Park Nursing Home, Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 3, 2006, at Silver Creek Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls with Mylo Carlson officiating. Burial will be at Silver Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5 " 8 PM, Friday, June 2, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to service at the church, Saturday.

Doris Ethel Leiran was born July 26, 1914 at home, east of Middle River, in the Mudd Lake, MN area. She was the middle child of 5 children born to Michael and Helga (Anderson) Leiran. Doris was baptized into the Lutheran Faith and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Holt, MN. She attended Bungaloo School, located between Middle River and Gatzke, MN. She attended high school in Holt, MN and then her last year, she attended Lincoln High School, Thief River Falls, MN. Doris took Normal Training and taught country school at School District 76, near Mavie, MN.

On June 17, 1935, Doris was united in marriage to William Elvin Kaushagen at her parents home. She worked on the family farm in Agder Township for 30 years and then moved into Thief River Falls. After her children grew up, Doris worked at Washington School, Thief River Falls and then as a teachers aide at the Newfolden, MN school. She lived at Skylight Apartments for 29 years.

Doris was a member of Silver Creek Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She also was a member of WELCA and a homemakers group. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting, reading, cards and Scrabble. Doris loved being a mother, homemaker, wife and teacher.

She is survived by 3 children, daughters, Barbara Champ, Thief River Falls, MN and Karen (Harvey) Meehl, Royalton, MN and son Dean (JoAn) Kaushagen, Thief River Falls, MN; 8 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren.

Doris is preceded in death by husband, William on February 16, 1969, an infant son, parents, sister, Eunice Hegreness and brothers, Arthur, Edry and Carduff Bud Leiran.
