Doris Mae Nelson, 74, died Friday, May 15, 2009 at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Red Lake Falls, MN.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN, with Reverend Terri Cuppett officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Service.
Doris Mae Mackereth was born August 17, 1934 in Kimball, MN, the daughter of Byran and Mae (Ellis) Mackereth. She attended school in Kimball, graduating from Kimball High School.
Doris was united in marriage to Orville Nelson on January 10, 1959 in Moorhead, MN. The couple lived in Minneapolis until 1967, where Doris worked as a waitress for a time. They moved to Thief River Falls where they have resided on a family farm. Doris worked at Northern Lights Bookstore in Thief River Falls, where she made many friends. The last three years she lived at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls.
Doris enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, and listening to Country Western music on the radio. But, most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. She was a member of St. Pauli Lutheran Church and Royal Neighbors.
Doris is survived by her husband, Orville; three daughters, Jean Marquis and her husband, R. Michael Reynolds of Venice, FL, Denise (Roger) Johnsrud of St. Hilaire, MN and Patricia (Walter) Maurer of Ridgecrest, CA; one son, Brad (Darcy) Nelson of Lakeville, MN; 12 grandchildren: Dustin (Kati Jo) Marquis, Jason, Brandon, Matthew, Racheal and Holly Johnsrud, Timothy, Travis and Brady Nelson and Andrew, Alyssa and Shane Maurer; one brother, Robert (Marsella) Mackereth of Annandale, MN; and several nieces and nephews..
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Glen, Dean, and Leslie Mackereth; one sister, Alice Dammann and one granddaughter, Ariel Lynne Johnsrud.
