Doris Thompson, age 88, died Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Valley Elder Care in Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be held from 10:30 AM until 12:30 PM (this time was changed on Dec. 25, 2013) on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Burial will follow at the Vang Cemetery, Vang, ND. Doris Ione (Craven) Thompson was born on May 11, 1925 in Hamilton, ND, the daughter of Roy and Ione (Matthews) Craven. She attended country school near Walhalla, ND. Doris was united in marriage to James Thompson Sr. on October 16, 1945 in Cavalier, ND. They made their home first in Cavalier. Doris and James moved to Grand Forks, ND, where they lived until 1965. The family moved to Thief River Falls, MN, where they have since lived. Doris loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed sewing, canning, baking, and gardening. Doris is survived by her children, Betty Nelson of Grand Forks, ND, James "Blondie" Thompson Jr. of Thief River Falls, MN, and Vickie (Loren) Ho of Texas; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Ness of Minneapolis, MN, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thompson Sr.; brothers and sisters, Roy, Bud, Jean, Marie, Marlene, and Gladys. Service information to follow.
