Dorothy Engen, of Erskine, MN formerly of Newfolden, MN passed away peacefully on Monday, September 23, 2019 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Erskine MN.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt, MN with Reverend Cathie Rhodes Officiating. Burial will be held at Holt Cemetery, Holt, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Dorothy Ione Garthus was born October 9, 1945 at Thief River Falls, M daughter of Ben and Helen (Monson) Garthus. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended school in Holt and graduated in 1963 from Newfolden, MN. Dorothy moved to Thief River Falls and worked at various jobs.

On March 7, 1964 she was united in marriage to Eldor "Butch" Engen at Nazareth Church in Holt, MN. to this union 3 sons were born Lowell, Donald and Steve. The couple moved to Reynolds, ND, moved back to Holt for two years and then Delano until 1972 when they moved back to Newfolden. Dorothy moved to Thief River Falls, in 1989 where she made her home until 2014 when she moved to assisted living in Erskine.

Dorothy enjoyed sewing and crocheting, cake decorating, reading, and gardening. Most of all she loved the time spent with family and friends.

She is survived by her children Lowell (Jennifer) Engen of Argyle, MN, Donald (Connie) Engen of Newfolden, MN and Steve (Celeste) Engen of Karlstad, MN; grandchildren Luca and Zada, Brody and Alison, Carrie(David) and Justin; great-grandson Cameron; brother Kenneth Garthus, sister-in-law Carol Garthus, along with several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Helen Garthus, brothers Jay and  Joe Garthus, sister-in-law Janet Garthus.
