Dorothy Meyer was born on March 1, 1929, the daughter of Clarence and Bertha (Wiese) Meyer in Red Lake Falls. She attended Lafayette High School and graduated in 1947. On September 18, 1948, Dorothy was united in marriage to Harold P. Ford at St. John Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls, MN. They were parents of seven children.

Dorothy was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, where she faithfully served and did volunteer work. She served her community on the volunteer ambulance and also supported the Red Lake Falls Hockey program as a Blue Line member and was inducted into the Blue Line Hall of Fame. Over the years Dorothy was employed at various jobs in Red Lake Falls including the Red Lake Falls Library, Penguin Clothing, Red Lake Falls Gazette, Detroiter Mobile Homes and the Red Lake County Social Services office. She retired in 1990.

Her favorite place was at the lake and she taught many of her grandchildren how to fish. She liked to follow the local high school sports and enjoyed gardening, bowling, knitting and crocheting.
