Obituary

Dorothy Rood, 84, passed away Monday, August 20, 2012 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 24, 2012 at Hegland Lutheran Church, rural Strandquist, MN, with Rev. Rodney Stromlund officiating. Burial will follow at Heglund Lutheran Church Cemetery, Nelson Park Township, Marshall County, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service on Thursday, August 23, 2012, at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also take place one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Friday. Dorothy Jane Stromlund was born November 5, 1927 in Nelson Park Township, Marshall County, MN, the daughter of Jonas Albert and Alma Olina (Nelson) Stromlund. She was baptized in the Baptist Church and confirmed in Mission Covenant Church, Strandquist, MN. She attended and graduated from Strandquist High School in 1945. On December 3, 1946, Dorothy was united in marriage to Howard Norman Rood from Strandquist, MN, in Halma, MN, in the Lutheran Parsonage. The couple made their home in Strandquist until 1952, when they moved to Holt, MN. Dorothy and Howard farmed and she also worked at Arctic Cat, as a Home Health Aide, Clerk, Bookkeeper, and also at her husband's body shop in Strandquist. Dorothy and Howard were Mother and Father to 2 children that they adopted in 1963: Scott Howard Rood and Denise Ann Rood. Dorothy later moved to the Riverside Terrace in Thief River Falls where she attended many activities. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Denise Ann Rood, Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren, Jami and Matthew Sorenson, Marie, Annie, Erica and Eve Rood; special grandchildren, Breanna, Bruce, and Justice; several great-grandchildren; a sisters-in-law, Eileen Stromlund, Harrison, AR, and Clarice Applebee, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Howard, August 7, 1980; her son, Scott Rood; her parents; brother, Reverend Albert Stromlund and a sister-in-law, Gertrude Anderson.
