Obituary

Dorothy Sveum of Thief River Falls, MN, formerly of Lancaster, MN age 76 passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Thief River Falls, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 12, 2013 at the Lancaster Covenant Church in Lancaster, MN with Pastor Galen Nordin officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Lancaster, MN. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Friday at Lancaster Covenant Church. Dorothy Mae Maksymchuk was born May 5, 1936 in Hallock, MN the daughter of John and Elena (Morrison) Maksymchuk. She grew up and attended school in Caribou, MN until attending Lancaster High School in Lancaster, MN where she graduated. Dorothy was confirmed into the Lutheran faith. On November 6, 1954, Dorothy was married to Scott D. Sveum. To this union three children were born, Clark, Tracee and Tammee. She lived most of her life in Lancaster. In 2010, she moved to Thief River Falls, MN following the death of her husband. Dorothy is best remembered for her love and gift for baking. She spent many years preparing pastries at the restaurant in Lancaster. Her knack for preparing food also included cooking for various functions and friends. She did a lot of cake decorating for several years as well. Dorothy also loved sewing and gardening and found great joy in tending to the vegetables and flowers. Most of all, Dorothy treasured her family. She was a loving, nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. Dorothy enjoyed attending the Lancaster Covenant Church in Lancaster, MN. Dorothy is survived by her three children, son Clark, daughters, Tracee and Tammee; 5 grandchildren, Ashley, Kyle, Jasmin, Joanna and Mandy; 2 great grandchildren; one brother, Robert Allen (Geraine) Maksymchuk; one sister, Marie (Robert) Quirk; as well as several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Scott; parents, John and Elena Maksymchuk; a brother, William Maksymchuk; and a sister, Jennie (Philip) Pearson.
