Douglas Nordby, 63, died on Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN, after a long battle with cancer.
Douglas Allen Nordby was born on November 2, 1940 in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Curtis A. and Alice (Warne) Nordby. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and attended school and grew to adulthood in Grygla.
On September 2, 1961 Douglas was united in marriage to Lorraine A. Klamar at United Lutheran Church at Gatzke, MN. Following their marriage they moved to Angus, MN and Douglas worked on a Dairy Farm. Later the couple moved to Warren, MN, where he worked at City Appliance and Dahlman Trucking. In the fall of 1969 they moved to Grygla and Douglas began working for Farmers Union and Creamery and he also started dairy farming and small grain farming. He was also a substitute Bus Driver for the Grygla School. Douglas began working for Polaris in 1987 until 1994, when he had to quit due to health reasons.
Douglas enjoyed tinkering and creating in his shop, working on small engines and helping his friends and neighbors, whenever he could. Music was a big part of his life, he played in bands including Cheatin Heart and Diversions. Douglas passed the love of music on to his children and grandchildren. He loved working outside and he was a very creative man. But most of all, his family was very important to Douglas, he loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren and enjoyed entertaining his friends and neighbors.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Lions Club and the Fourtown/Grygla Sportsmans Club.
Douglas is survived by his wife, Lorraine of Grygla, MN; four children: Mike (Deanna) Nordby of Grygla, MN, James (Shirlene) Nordby of Badger, MN, Kimberly (Kim) Emery of Badger, MN and Gerald (Jessie) Nordby of Grygla, MN; eight grandchildren: Tanya Verbout, Kasey Nordby, Lucas Nordby, Justin Nordby, Kelsey Emery, Kaitlyn Emery, Donovan Nordby and Julianne Nordby; one brother, Larry (Pat) Nordby of Grygla, MN; one sister, Charleen (Roger) Rudolph of Glyndon, MN; and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Skyler; and brother-in-law, Keith Jankowski.
