Obituary

Douglas Sodon, 47 of Clearbrook, MN formerly of Thief River Falls, MN died suddenly on Monday, November 14, 2016 at Sanford Hospital in Thief River Falls, MN.

The funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Pastor Jim Binder from Country Faith Church will officiate. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be at Black River Cemetery, rural St. Hilaire, MN.

Douglas Lemoin Sodon was born on March 9, 1969 in Marion, IN the son of George and Ruth (Nofsinger) Sodon. He was baptized into the Christian faith. He attended Washington Elementary School and Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls, MN graduating with the class of 1987.

Following high school, Douglas entered into service with the United States Army. He did his training at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland and was stationed at Ft. Carson, CO. After his Honorable Discharge, Douglas attended Northland Community & Technical College in Thief River Falls, MN where he studied Aviation Mechanics.

Douglas worked for multiple construction firms in northwest Minnesota. He also worked for a number of years for Clearwater County Highway Department and for the last couple of years was a professional truck driver for Paradis' Inc. in Brooks, MN.

Douglas was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, visiting pawn shops, auction sales, rummage sales, collecting n' stuff. Douglas had a big heart and was loved by all of his nieces and nephews; he was a beloved son and brother. He was known for his generosity and kindness and was quick to come aside someone in need. Doug had a tremendous work ethic, a quirky sense of humor, and never wavered from his commitments. He was a kind soul, had a gentle heart and was a loyal friend.

Doug's daughter Anna "Boo" was the love of his life. From the day she was born on January 10, 2003 she was the sparkle of his eye. They enjoyed traveling and spending time outdoors. He adored her and they were inseparable when he wasn't working.

For many years, Douglas was a volunteer fireman and first responder for Clearwater County. He was a member of the Country Faith Church in Clearbrook.

Survivors include his loving daughter, Anna "Boo"; parents, George and Ruth Sodon of Thief River Falls; siblings, Derek (Michele) Sodon of Evergreen, CO, Bonnie (Kevin) Barth of Thief River Falls, and Warren (Tracy) Sodon of Big Lake, MN; nieces and nephews, Kate (Matt), Lance, Ashley, Kirsten (Alex), Cody, Travis, Kalicia, McKaylah, Steven and Seth; great niece, Brooklyn; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca.
