Duaine G. Olson, 87, of Thief River Falls, passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, on Tuesday, December 3, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 9, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN, with Pastor Troy Bates officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Monday, December 9, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Service. Duaine G. (Peterson) Olson was born on November 3, 1926 in Lake Elizabeth Township, Kandiyohi County, MN, the daughter of Andrew S. Peterson and Myrtle G. (Hanson) Peterson. On January 29, 1948 Duaine was united in marriage to Henry C. Olson in Thief River Falls. They made their home on Henry's father's homestead in Rocksbury Township. Duaine and Henry raised their family of six on the farm. Duaine was the right hand woman on the farm and also worked at the Land O' Lakes Turkey Plant and Arctic Enterprises. Duaine's interests included crocheting many doilies and afghans - giving many to various Veterans organizations in the area, and knitting many mittens, hats, and scarves which she donated and gave to her family and friends. In her younger years she sewed a lot of her children's clothes. She became an accomplished craftsperson, selling original patterns to magazines and winning several Blue Ribbons at the Pennington County Fair. Her sewing machine was always set up, ready to mend or fix anything! Duaine loved to enter recipes and original poetry in magazines and newspapers, also winning multiple awards. Duaine held lifetime memberships with the T.R.F Ladies Auxiliary #2793, the Crookston DAV Ladies Auxiliary, and the Union Woodworkers of America. In her later years she enjoyed traveling, many bus trips, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and continuing with her craft-making - her hands were never idle. She is survived by her children, Gladee (Dale) Koop of Thief River Falls, MN, Debra Daniels of East Grand Forks, MN, and Lonnie (Linda) Olson of Crookston, MN; grandchildren, Jason Koop of Grand Forks, ND, Kristine (Nick) Wheat of San Tan Valley, AZ, Zachary (Katherine) Daniels of East Grand Forks, MN, and Larissa Olson (Special Friend, Joshua Noyes) of Crookston, MN; great-grandchildren, Aiden and Avery Koop of Grand Forks, ND, Zachary, Kira, and Jack Daniels of East Grand Forks, MN; brother and sisters, Derryl Peterson of Minneapolis, MN, Virginia (Lee) Herzog of Paynesville, MN, Donna Srnsky of Grand Forks, ND, and Joan (Wes) Halvorson of Little Falls, MN; sister-in-law, Grace Peterson of Atwater, MN, and many other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death is her husband, Henry; her parents; sons, Claren, Kevin, and Nathan Olson; sisters, Marion Swanson and Audrey Israelsen, and her brothers, Eugene and John Peterson.
