Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Dennis Raymond officiating.
There will be a 7:00 P.M. prayer service at Zion Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Thief River Falls on Tuesday, November 11, 2003 and visitation at the church for one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
Duane Allen Holland was born on April 13, 1944 in Detroit Lakes, MN, the son of Frank and Elsie (Bursch) Holland. He was baptized at Bethany Lutheran Church in Mahnomen and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Duane attended Elementary School and High School in Mahnomen, graduating from Mahnomen High School in 1962. Following High School he attended Hanson Mechanics School in Fargo, ND, for one year. He served in the Unites States Army. Duane moved to Thief River Falls, and attended Northland College, where he received his Law Enforcement Training, following his Fathers footsteps into Law Enforcement.
Duanes work history started when he worked for Roys Garage in Mahnomen, Moorhead Tallman Oil and Jacks Motor Sports in Mahnomen. Duane started working for the Thief River Falls Police Department, in 1970, where he served for 30 years, retiring in July of 2000. He served as Deputy Chief of Police. Following his retirement Duane worked for the Pennington County Sheriffs Department as a Transportation Officer and at Northwest Medical Center as an Outreach Worker in Roseau, MN.
Duane was united in marriage to Gail Loanne Svedahl on October 29, 1977 in Fosston, MN.
He was an avid hunter, including ducks, geese and deer, enjoyed trapping, fly fishing, ice fishing and fishing on Lake of the Woods. Duane was very involved with his family and enjoyed sharing his hobbies with them. He loved his hunting dog Annie and their little dog, Bailey. He enjoyed E-Bay and playing solitaire on the computer and he was a collector of many unique items.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Kiwanis, American Legion, Sportsmans Club, MPPOA, Ducks Unlimited, Deer Hunters Association and the Humane Society.
Duane is survived by his wife, Gail of Thief River Falls, MN; two daughters: Dayna Holland of Thief River Falls, MN and Kelsi Holland, who is currently attending the University of Minnesota in Morris, MN; one sister, Beverly Froehling of Delano, MN; two nieces, Cindy (Larry) Crowson of Delano, MN and Carol Froehling of Delano, MN; and one nephew, Steve Froehling of Omaha, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
