Dr. Earl Wallace Dagg, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Sanford Hospital in Thief River Falls.
He was born in Winnipeg on February 19, 1925 and was raised in Dauphin, Manitoba, Canada. During WWII, he served as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force. In 1946 he attended University of Manitoba and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. He married Melvine Theodora Bodnar in 1950 and was admitted to medical school. In 1955 he attained his medical degree from University of Manitoba and interned at the Winnipeg General Hospital. Earl enjoyed 3 years of family practice in Ellendale, North Dakota and in 1958 moved to Salt Lake City to complete a 4 year radiological residency at University of Utah.
In 1962, he moved his family to TRF and reorganized the department of radiology at Northwestern Hospital. Included in his practice were twice weekly visits (often flown in his Cessna 180) to the hospitals in Fosston and Bagley. He had excellent collegial relationships with Drs. Wendt, Van Rooy, Thorsgard, Martin, Scheuneman, Herber, and Bray, to mention a few. Earl stated many times that it was a wonderful time to practice medicine. He believed that Northwestern Hospital administration and staff worked well together planning and implementing state of the art technology.
Earl was an avid reader and enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, and especially family gatherings at the Lake of the Woods cabin. He and Melvine loved to travel and visited many places in the world. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on August 25.
Earl is survived by his loving wife Melvine and four children: Karen (John Lee), John (Mary Kay), Geoffrey (Ruth), and Jim (Tamar), as well as his sister, Arlie McIntosh, of Dauphin, Manitoba. Earl has 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces.
Funeral services will be Monday, Sept 19 at 11am at the Johnson-Green Funeral Service in TRF, with the Rev. Dr. James Shannon of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Grand Forks officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. Private interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.
