Edla Holmberg, 84, died Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center, CNC Unit, Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Monday, November 25, 2002 at Evangelical Free Church, Thief River Falls, MN, with Reverend Jim Howard officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.
Visitation will be 2 " 5 PM, Sunday, November 24, 2002 at the Johnson Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, MN, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Edla Erickson was born February 24, 1918, in Vega Township, Marshall County, MN, the daughter of John and Edith Westberg Erickson. She grew up and attended country school in Marshall County. The family moved to Thief River Falls, MN, where Edla graduated from Lincoln High School in 1936. Edla completed a course in Practical Nursing in 1956.
On October 21, 1947, Edla was united in marriage to Nels Holmberg at Thief River Falls, by Pastor L.W. Lindholm. Edla worked at Consumers Co-op, Sears-Roebuck, Ben Franklin, Wangenstein Jewelry, Bethany Bookstore and was a volunteer at the Hospital Womens Auxiliary.
She enjoyed singing and listening to music. A big part of Edlas life was working with the Gideons Auxiliary where she held several offices. Edla was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church and the Evangelical Free Church Auxiliary.
Survivors include husband, Nels of Thief River Falls, MN; son, Allan (Joanne) of River Vale, NJ; five grandchildren, Jenna, Nissa, Allison, Kaitlin, Eric; one great grandchild, Liam; brothers, Charles (Nona) Erickson of Alexandria, MN and James (Marilyn) Erickson of Howick, MN; sisters, Genevieve (John) Bowman of Sudan, MN and Pauline Ptacek of Thief River Falls, MN; and nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Mendell Erickson.
