Edna Blair was born on June 19, 1917, the daughter of David and Grace (Wessels) Blair, near Park Center, ND. She grew up working on the farm with her Dad and three brothers. Edna married Lloyd Karel and had one son, Gerald. After Lloyds death she worked in the area. On October 25, 1944 she married Mervin Hyde, rural Neche, ND. The couple farmed in North Dakota until 1947, when they moved, with their sons to a farm near Brooks, MN. Edna was always active on the farm and she especially enjoyed caring for the animals and milking cows. They moved to Plummer in 1985. In addition, she worked at the bakery in Red Lake Falls, sold Avon for 39 years and wrote the local news for several papers.

Edna made hundreds of special occasion cakes and was known locally as The Cake Lady . She was gregarious, had a great sense of humor and loved playing cards and entertaining. For many years she hosted a mid-June picnic for family and friends. She kept a special candy drawer in her kitchen for the neighborhood children who all called her Grandma. She enjoyed doing crafts, ceramics, and quilting and was especially proud to have completed a velvet piece quilt.

Edna was active in the Hollyhocks Homemakers Club, Birthday Clubs, Plummer Senior Citizens and the Presbyterian Church in Plummer. When the church closed she joined Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Edna is survived by sons, Dennis Hyde, Ponsford, MN and Roger Hyde, Plummer, MN; five grandchildren: Stephanie (Jonathan) Deitz, Bismarck, ND, Stacey Swanson, Dilworth, MN, Corey Hyde, Winona, MN, Kay Hamilton and Tami Wheeler, both of FL; seven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
