Edna Smillie, 95, died on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 12, 2008 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. John Voelker, Ph.D., officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday.

Edna Mae Johnson was born on December 15, 1912 to Claus and Annie (Carlson) Johnson, in Moorhead, MN. She grew up in Fargo-Moorhead area where she attended schools. She was united in marriage to James Richard Smillie on June 20, 1936 in Moorhead, MN. They lived in a few places including Rolla, Lakota, and Fargo, ND. They eventually settled in Thief River Falls, MN in 1956. She was a stay at home mom and homemaker all of her life.

Edna loved her cats. She enjoyed embroidering and handi work. She did a lot of traveling throughout the country while her husband was a commander with the American Legion.

She is survived by one daughter Kay Smillie, Thief River Falls, MN and two nieces Joyce (Keith) Junge, Detroit Lakes, MN, Maris (Lyle) Thompson, Phoenix, AZ.

She was preceded by her parents, her husband James in 1991, and two sisters, Lillian Jones and Ethel Cochran.
