Obituary

Edna Wieland, 105, died on Sunday, April 9, 2006 at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls, MN.


Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at 10:30 AM in St. John Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls with Reverend Rick Hensel officiating. Burial will be held in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery at Wylie, MN.

Visitation will be held 5-8 PM on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at the church with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Edna Bernice Wagner was born on February 23, 1901 in Nesbitt Township, near Fisher, MN to Charles and Freida (Michaels) Wagner. She was baptized on June 9, 1901 and confirmed on April 5, 1914 at Trinity Church in Fisher, MN. She attended rural school through the eighth grade.

Edna was united in marriage to Walter Wieland on November 7, 1923 at Trinity Church, Fisher, MN. She was a stay at home mother who tended to her family. She also helped her husband Walter with the farm work.

Edna was the superintendent of Sunday school, played the organ in church, member of the Ladies Aide, member of the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, the Busy Jane Homemakers Club and she was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

Edna is survived by 5 children: Kenneth Wieland, Red Lake Falls, MN; Alvis Wieland, Red Lake Falls, MN, Henry (Marilyn) Wieland, Red Lake Falls, MN; Donald (Audrey) Wieland, Osceola, WI; Dean (Mae) Wieland, Grand Forks, ND; 12 grandchildren: Lois (Allen) Remick, Linda (Ken) Ulrich, Carol (Doug) Kees, Gary (Paulette) Casavan, Debra (Jack) Sullivan, Todd (Jen) Wieland, Kristi Walsh, Casey (Bob) Klipping, Brenda (Allen) Schulte, Lori (James) Schultz, Andy (Cindy) Wieland, Suzi (Cory) Retzlaff, 32 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren, , 1 sister Carrie Radi, Crookston, MN 2 sisters in law: Eve Wagner, Erma Wagner and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter Wieland, daughter Eleanor Casavan, son in law Blackie Casavan, daughter in law Ellen Wieland, brothers Clarence Wagner, Robert Wagner, Harvey Wagner, Harry Wagner, Howard Wagner and her brother in law Ernest Radi.
