Obituary

Edvin Hanson, 75, died Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at McIntosh Manor Nursing Home, McIntosh, MN.

Funeral service will be noon, Monday, January 23, 2006 at Faith Lutheran Church, Goodridge, MN, with Reverend Robert Dahlen officiating. Burial will be at Reiner Lutheran Cemetery., Goodridge, MN. Military honors will be provided by the Ecklund-Holmstrom American Legion Post #117, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2793 and the Grand Forks Air Force Base Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 2 " 5 PM, Sunday, January 22, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, with a 5 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to service at the church, Monday.

Edvin Henry Hanson was born June 17, 1930 at Hatton, ND, the son of Kore and Mathilda (Holdahl) Hanson. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith. He attended country school in Reiner Township. He stayed on the farm where he worked and milked cows.

Edvin enlisted in the United States Air Force in January 1951 and took his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He then was sent to Guam. Some of the other places Edvin was stationed were Illinois, Texas, Kansas, Ohio and Alaska. Overseas assignments included Guam, Viet Nam, Philippines and Turkey. Edvin married Marlene Sturre on November 13, 1950 and to this union seven children were born.

In 1956, Edvin was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base for a number of years. He retired from the Air Force in 1971 as T/Sgt. While in the Air Force he worked as a cook and a supervisor. He and Marlene have made their home in Thief River Falls. Following his retirement, Edvin enjoyed helping Larry Bryl on his farm and hunting deer.

Edvin enjoyed visiting with his family and talking on the phone. He was a resident of McIntosh Manor Nursing Home since March, 2005.

Edvin is survived by wife, Marlene, Thief River Falls; 7 children, Deb (Doug) Derosier, Red Lake Falls, MN, Edvin Hanson Jr., Columbia, IL, Theresa (Danny) Johnsrud, Goodridge, MN, Keith Hanson, Red Lake Falls, MN, Renae (Patrick) Garland, Tehachapi, CA, Brian (Nancy) Hanson, Granite Falls, MN and Bruce (Penni) Hanson, Marshall, MN; 20 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Kenneth (Peggy) Hanson, St. Paul, MN; sisters, Margaret (Charles) Peterson, Renton, WA and Kathy Johnson, Thief River Falls, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by grand daughter, Shannon Garland; parents and sister, Beulah in 1952.
