Edward Constant, of Red Lake Falls, MN, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021, at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN.
Graveside service with Military Honors will be 1:00 PM Sunday, September 12, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, MN with Deacon John Bruggeman Officiating. A Luncheon will be held after the service at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls.
Edward John Constant was born August 22, 1921, in Browns Creek Township, Red Lake County, MN, the son of William and Frances (Bendel) Constant. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Church, Red Lake Falls. Edward attended Washington School, St. Joseph's School and Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls.
He served his country with the United States Navy where he attended boot camp in the Great Lakes area. His tour of duty was from 1942-1946. His locations consisted of Washington, the Aleutian Islands, an aircraft carrier in the Pacific. He was also stationed on a ship in the Atlantic searching for submarines.
Edward worked for Bill Surprenant Construction Builders, Thibert Chevrolet as a mechanic and worked on a construction crew out of Crookston, MN. He worked in nine different states in construction, retiring in 1983, to live in the house in which he was born. He said, "I retired too soon". He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and playing cards.
He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local #49, from 1947 until the time of his death, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls and the Red Lake Falls Sportsman Club.
Edward is survived by sister-in-law, Monica (Lloyd) Constant of Fargo, ND and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Willard (Juanita) Constant, Lloyd Constant, and sister Marion (Patrick) Herold.
