Ed Moran of Red Lake Falls, MN, age 60, passed away at his home on Monday, June 24, 2013. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Edward John Moran was born on March 10, 1953 the son of Joseph and ViAnn (Lizotte) Moran. He was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic Faith. Ed graduated from Lafayette High School in 1971, and later that year he entered into the Marines for two years stationed at Camp Pendleton, California. Once returning home from the Marines, he continued his education at Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls, MN completing his generals and welding degree. Ed worked at American Crystal Sugar in Crookston, MN for many years. He then made his lifelong career as a cattle farmer on his farm in Red Lake Falls, MN. Ed had a passion for the history of Native American's and early settlers of Minnesota and the Dakota's. In his last few years he filled his spare time searching for metal with his metal detector. Some of Ed's other interests were visiting with elders of the region to learn the possible locations of trading posts and settles of a time long ago. He would then visit these locations with his metal detector, and would find artifacts of these early years. Many times it was only a button or belt buckle of a military uniform or a bullet casing, and other times it would be pots and pans. He also enjoyed growing a big garden, farming and raising cattle. He is survived by brothers and sisters: Mary (Al) Maier of Jamestown, ND, Francis (Deb) Moran of Red Lake Falls, MN, Pam Paul of Scottsdale, AZ, Roger (Pam) Moran of Svea, MN, Perry Moran of Scottsdale, AZ, and Andy Moran of Red Lake Falls, MN; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Ed is preceded in death by his parents and brother Bryan.
