Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass at St. Bernard's Catholic Church on Tuesday.
Edward John Walseth was born on May 23, 1948 in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Harold J. and Gladys (Skallet) Walseth. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and later, after marriage, into the Catholic Church. He attended grade school in St. Hilaire, MN, and moved to rural Thief River Falls, where he continued school until graduation in 1966. He then attended two years at Northland Community College in Thief River Falls where he got his Associate of Arts Degree.
Ed was married to Mary Boucher from Oklee, MN, on August 8, 1970. Together they made their home in Thief River Falls for almost 52 years. To their union they had two children, Karissa (Kari) and Brock and seven grandchildren.
Ed worked at Otto's Red Owl, Holiday Station Store, Hartz Foods, then worked on the road with various other convenience store suppliers as a district manager. After retirement in 2013 he took a job for Simonson's Station Store as a control manager for all the Simonson Stores, traveling and visiting them until his cancer tied him down.
Ed was an active member of the Prairie Schooner Car Club, where Ed, Mary, Kari and Brock enjoyed driving his 1954 blue Plymouth convertible – his first car he bought with pride and joy.
For many years Ed was the lead singer and rhythm guitar player in their band called The Fugitives. He grew up in a musical family and started singing at the age of six.
He loved fishing, hunting, and making smoked sausage with his buddy, Greg Sandahl – and don't forget about three o'clock coffee!
Ed was involved in Ducks Unlimited, Deer Hunters, and sang and played guitar in the church group at St. Bernard's.
He always looked forward to being with family, friends, and totally enjoyed his grandchildren, playing guitar, and singing around campfires and during Christmas.
Ed is survived by his loving wife Mary of 52 years; children Karissa "Kari" (Cory) Callenius of Mooreton, ND, and Brock (Lisa) Walseth of Newport News, VA; grandchildren Jadyn Callenius, Shandi Callenius, Brezlyn Callenius, Kailee Wallace, Kinsey Wallace, Chloe Walseth, and Theron Walseth; siblings Marie Owens, Roy Walseth, Al Walseth, Wally Walseth, Lyle Walseth, Scott Walseth, and Chickie Peterson; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Gladys Walseth; sister Jane O'Gorman; brothers Lee Walseth and Vernon Walseth; and sister Karen Hruby.
