Edward A. Yager, 78, died on Sunday, June 12, 2005 at his home in rural Grygla, MN.
Edward Alois Yager was born on December 11, 1926 in Fergus Falls, MN, the son of Edward G. and Freida (Hackenmueller) Yager. He attended school in Staples, MN and then went to work on the family farm and on a neighbors farm.
On March 3, 1945 Edward entered into service with the United States Army at Fort Snelling. He served in the Philippines during World War 11. Following his Honorable Discharge on December 7, 1946 Edward returned to Howard Lake, MN, where his parents lived. Edward went to work for Cudahys Meat Packing Company in South St. Paul, MN.
He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ogilvie, MN. Edward was united in marriage to Marjorie Keehr on June 12, 1954 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ogilvie, MN. They lived in the Twin Cities until the Fall of 1956, then they moved to Ogilvie, where he farmed and was a butcher. In 1970 the couple moved to Benville Township, near Grygla, and farmed until 1996, when he retired and then continued to help the boys on the farm.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. Edward also liked to play cards, with family and friends, especially pinochle, whist and cribbage.
Edward was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #162 of Grygla.
Edward is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Grygla, MN; five children: Marilou (Orvis) Byklum of Grygla, MN, Diane Yager of Gatzke, MN, Edwin Yager, Ruby (Paul) Sundberg and Billy (Marita) Yager, all of Grygla, MN; 13 grandchildren: Jessica, Lisa and Kevin Byklum, Matthew, Lindsay, Jacob, Samuel and Eli Sundberg, and Katy, Emily, Bethany, Lydia and Olivia Yager; three sisters: Dorothy Wysong of St. Paul, MN, Betty Melquist of Dassel, MN and Shirley (Ed) Knuze of Sioux Falls, SD; one brother, James (Linda) Yager of Woodbury, MN; and several nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Darwin; two brothers, Donald and Ralph; sister-in-law, Donna Yager; and two brothers-in-law, Charles Melquist and Doug Wysong.
