Obituary

Edwin Bertel Halvorson, 85, died on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Trail, MN with Reverend Joseph Abrahamson officiating. Burial will be in Nazareth Lutheran Cemetery, Hickory Township, Pennington County, MN.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, June 15, 2007 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer service on Friday evening and also at the church for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Edwin Bertel Halvorson was born on January 27, 1922, in Hickory Township, Pennington County, MN, the son of Henry C. and Emma (Dahle) Halvorson. He was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church and attended country school. Following school Edwin made a living trapping.

Edwin was united in marriage to Stella Skalet on December 18, 1948 at Trail, MN. The couple purchased Edwins Family Farm shortly after they were married and he lived on the farm his entire life. He also worked on the Missal Bases, the St. Lawrence Seaway, and Edwin also worked construction in the Dakotas, Montana and Wyoming.

He enjoyed telling jokes and old farming stories and loved to go hunting. Edwin was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, where he served on the Board and was Deacon, on the Hickory Township Board for 33 years, and he was also an NFO member.

Edwin is survived by his wife, Stella, of Trail, MN; four children: Gary (Anita) Halvorson of Trail, MN, Galen Halvorson of Thief River Falls, MN, Evonne Halvorson of Grand Forks, ND and Doreen Finseth of Karlstad, MN; eight grandchildren: Kristi, Bethany, Chad, Rachel (Jonathan), Katie, Megan, Betsy and Sarah; great granddaughter, Quinn; sisters: Regina Gustafson of McIntosh, MN, Helen Pitchford of Lynnwood, WA Alvina Jablinske of Lynnwood, WA and Delores Lee of Bothell, WA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Clara Johnson and brothers: Clifford, Selmer, Oscar and Raymond.
