Obituary

Edwin Stromlund, 88, died on Sunday, September 26, 2004 at the Greenbush Community Nursing Home in Greenbush, MN.

Edwin Olaf Stromlund was born on May 15, 1916 in Huss Township, on the family farm, the son of Samuel and Anna (Johnson) Stromlund. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church in Strathcona. He attended Country School in Huss Township and was awarded his High School Diploma on Veterans Day. Edwin served in the United States Army as a medic during World War II. He received the Silver Star, was in the European Theatre and was Honorably Discharged.

Ed was united in marriage to Delores Ann Lorenson on June 27, 1947 in Thief River Falls, MN. The couple made their home on the Stromlund Family Farm in Huss Township, near Strathcona. He farmed the Family Farm and also worked for Schenkey Construction and Collins Construction in the summer and in the winter he worked for Bogestad Potatoes. In 1965 they moved to Greenbush, where he worked as janitor for the Greenbush School. In 1970 Ed and Delores moved to Thief River Falls, where he worked for the Thief River Falls School District as head custodian. Ed retired in 1981 at the age of 65. Following retirement he drove tractor for the Peat Farm in Newfolden. In August, 1981 they moved to rural Newfolden, where they have continued to reside. Delores died in 1998.

Ed loved to play cards, especially smear in Thief River Falls and pinochle in Newfolden, several times a day, and he had many friends in the area to play with. He also enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and was always lucky in shaking dice.

Ed was a member of New Hope Church and a 59 year member of the American Legion Post 88 of Greenbush, MN.

Ed is survived by three children: Loren (Elaine) Stromlund of Isanti, MN, Darrell (Debby) Stromlund of Strathcona, MN and Denae (Bradley) Blawat of Viking, MN; 15 grandchildren and step grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and step great grandchildren; two sisters: Gladys Rud of Greenbush, MN and Adeline (Ray) Johnson of Roseau, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Doris Johnson; and three brothers: Philip, Harry and Walter.
