Eldon James Augustine was born on July 23, 1955 in Thief River Falls, MN the son of Marlan and Doris (Larson) Augustine. He was baptized in 1955 and confirmed in 1970 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt, MN. Eldon attended school in Holt, MN and graduated from Newfolden High School in 1973. Following high school, Eldon continued to work with his parents on the family farm. They had dairy cattle, beef cattle and farmed small grains. He eventually took over the operation. On July 24, 1976, Eldon was united in marriage to Marla Nelson at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls. To this union three children were born, Matthew, Mark, and Holly. They made their home on the Augustine family farm in Excel Township, Marshall County, MN. Together they farmed with brother-in-law, Jay until 1998 at which time Eldon went to work for Dan Engen Construction. In 2007 he went to work for Hawkes Company in East Grand Forks, MN where he worked until the time of his death. He was a "jack of all trades" and was always willing to help his neighbors and friends. He didn't have an enemy in the world. Eldon was very knowledgeable in everything he did and was a very hard working man. He could diagnose his daughter Holly's problems from hundreds of miles away and enjoyed traveling to the cities to help his son, Matt, with house projects. Eldon was very proud of his children and grandchildren and all they had accomplished. Eldon enjoyed hunting, muzzle loading, flying, fishing (hard water), curling, spending time outdoors, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was very active in the Newfolden Agassiz Rod & Gun Club and was a member of the Eagle's Club in Thief River Falls. Eldon served on the Newfolden School Board from 1985 until 2000. In 1991 he was elected Chairman of the Board and served as Chairman until 2000.
