Eleanor Grace Hanson was born in a log house on the family farm in Norden Township, Pennington County, MN on December 11, 1919 to Gerhard and Emma (Johnson) Hanson. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and was confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Eleanor attended Gopher Mound School District #127 through the eighth grade. Following school, she stayed home to help on the family farm and also help the neighbors. On May 31, 1946, Eleanor was united in marriage to George Harrison Joyce at home on the Hanson family farm. The couple made their home with her parents on the farm. George's nickname for Eleanor was "Rabbit". She was a member of the Norden Lutheran Church rural Thief River Falls. Eleanor donated property to Norden Lutheran Church and was the driving force for getting donations for church restoration and upkeep. When the Norden Lutheran Church closed she attended the Oak Ridge Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls. Eleanor lived her entire life on the family farm until moving to Valley Home in Thief River Falls in January of 2014. She and George were the custodians at the Gopher Mound School. Eleanor worked at the turkey processing plant in Thief River Falls and worked for 28 years at L.B. Hartz Wholesale in the Packing Department. Eleanor loved animals, especially dogs, cats and chickens and there are many pictures of her with her animals. She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, cooking, baking, playing cards, especially whist, and working in the field with George. Eleanor wasn't afraid to grab her gun and take out an occasional skunk or critter. She was a very loving and giving person and will be missed by many people. Eleanor loved company and always had a "little" lunch on the table. Eleanor and George had no children of their own, but had 8 godchildren, which she has really enjoyed over the years. She was so proud to see her godchildren grow up and see what they have accomplished. Survivors include 8 godchildren, Donnie, Allan, Elton, Timmy, Randy, Greg, Tracy and Sierra; many friends, relatives and neighbors. She is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, George in 1972. Her motto was: "Love, Faith, Caring and Sharing"
