Elizabeth Libby Nelson, 99, died on Friday, March 16, 2007 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 24, 2007 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Burial will be held at the Carrington Cemetery in Carrington, ND.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service.

Elizabeth (Libby) (Libus) Lloyd, the 5th of eight children, was born to David E. Lloyd and Harriet Belle (Davies) Lloyd on October 8, 1907 in Fessenden, North Dakota. After High School graduation, she attended Business College in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. She then worked in the county agents office in Fessenden until her marriage.

She was united in marriage to David Wilfred Nelson of Sykeston, North Dakota on October 5, 1930. They farmed briefly near Pettibone, North Dakota and then near Sykeston, North Dakota. In 1946 they moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota. In 1959 they returned to their farm near Sykeston where they lived until Davids death in 1976.

Elizabeth had wanted to learn to paint from the time she was just a girl. A job, marriage and raising a family and farming caused her to put off the fulfillment of this wish until she was 66 years old. At that time she took a few art classes and then again put her wish on hold through the illness and death of her husband. Two years later, after moving her two-storey house 40 miles to Carrington, North Dakota, she resumed art classes. In the years following, she painted in both oils and watercolors. She painted portraits, still life, landscapes, and animals to a total of 84 pictures. She painted from snap shots, pictures and her own inner vision.

In 1990, Elizabeth moved to Riverside Terrace in Thief River Falls, MN. After spending 9 months at Oakland Park Nursing Home due to osteoporosis, she moved to Mound, MN in 1997where she lived until returning to Thief River Falls in 2005. After a brief stay at Valley Home she lived at Oakland Park Nursing Home until the time of her death.

Elizabeth Nelson is survived by her son Darin (Carol) Nelson and their children, Steve (Lisa) Nelson and their children, Carrie, Joe and Rebecca, Brian Nelson and Lisa Nelson; and by her daughter, Sharon (James) Erickson and their children, David and his children, Elizabeth and son, Jace, Roberta and Benjamin, Grant Erickson, Marlo (Mike) Paulson and their son, Matthew and Andrea (Shane) Borg and their daughter Libby Joy; three sisters-in-law, Vae Kruschwitz and Donna Nix of Moorhead, MN and Pauline Lloyd of Oshkosh, Wisconsin also survive her as do many nieces and nephews and their families.

Her parents; her husband and all of her siblings preceded her in death.

Libbys family suggests memorials to First Care Hospice, Thief River Falls, MN or Northland Community & Technical College Art Department, Thief River Falls.
