Ell-Kay Foss, 82 of Wannaska, MN passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022 at LifeCare Medical Center in Roseau, MN with his loving family by his side.
The funeral service will be held 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Skime, Minnesota with Pastor Steven Bliss officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Bethesda Church Cemetery.
Ell-Kay Bernard Foss was born September 17, 1939 in Pelan Township, Kittson County, Minnesota the son of Olaf and Florinda (Skime) Foss. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in International Falls, Minnesota. He graduated from International Falls High School with the class of 1957 and then attended the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
While living in Minneapolis, Ell-Kay met his future wife, June Webber of St. Paul, Minnesota. The couple were married on February 11, 1961, in Mason City, Iowa and they made their home in St. Paul. To this union three children were born, Curtis, Christina and Clarissa. Ell-Kay worked for Ellerbe Architects while living in the Twin Cities.
In 1972 the family relocated to Skime, Minnesota where they owned the Foss Grocery for 16 years. June operated the grocery store while Ell-Kay worked for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. He worked for different disciplines within the DNR and he formally retired in 2004.
Ell-Kay enjoyed gardening, deer hunting, riding motorcycle, playing cribbage, and visiting with family and friends. He felt he was very fortunate to get to know and enjoy his grandchildren and even great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church and was Bethesda Cemetery Sexton for almost 30 years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, June of Wannaska, Minnesota; daughters, Christina (Donavon) Hetteen of Wannaska, Minnesota and Clarissa (Carl) Nelson of Roseau, Minnesota; grandchildren, Emily (Nate) Stevensen, Alex (Jill) Hetteen, Devon (Chelsey) Hetteen, and Grace (fiancé, Michael Ruediger) Petrowski; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Joe, Preston, Sophia, Sawyer, Scarlett, Harlee, Henslee, Reid, Morgan, and another great granddaughter due in October; brother, William (Faye) Foss of Cold Spring, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Harvey Chapman; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Curtis Dean; sister Eileen Chapman; grandparents, Alma & Tom Skime and Hildagaard & Sigrid Foss.
