Obituary

Ella Dahlen Englund, 75, died Friday, February 22, 2008 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, February 25, 2008 at Ekelund Lutheran Church, rural Goodridge, MN, with Reverend Robert Dahlen officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, February 24, 2008 with a 7:00 PM prayer service at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Ella Mae Good was born June 15, 1932, on the Red Lake Indian Reservation at her familys home, the daughter of Wayne and Hilma (Mostrom) Good. She attended the St. Marys Mission School in Red Lake, Pipestone Indian Boarding School, and country schools in rural Trail, MN.

On November 22, 1947, Ella was united in marriage to Erling Dahlen at the parsonage south of Trail, MN by Rev. Halvard Lie. Witnesses were her sister Myrtle Good, and Vernon Iverson. To this union 11 children were born: Cheryl, Elaine, David, Jeffrey, Joel, Carolyn, Kelly, Kevin, Donna, Leah and Steven. They were proud of their farmstead in Star Township where she and Erling lived and farmed for 36 years. Ella was a loving wife and mother who was always there for her family. Her deepest values were her children and grandchildren. Ella was a very kind and hard working woman. She had told many people, I have ten children and not one to spare.

Ella moved to Thief River Falls in 1986. She married Gene Englund, December 27, 1986 at Zion Lutheran Church. She spent her later years at Summerfield Apartments in Thief River Falls.

Ella enjoyed baking, especially donuts, she had baked bread since she was eight years old. She also enjoyed dancing, listening to Merle Haggard, gardening, cooking, doing word searches, watching sports, reading, and visiting with her many family and friends.

She was a member of Ekelund Lutheran Church, Bethany Lutheran Church, the Thief River Falls American Legion Auxiliary and VFW, and was an enrolled member of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians.

Ella is survived by her children: Elaine (David) Roehl of Bloomington, MN, David (Gayle) Dahlen of Goodridge, MN, Jeffrey (Shirley) Dahlen of Goodridge, MN, Joel (Rosie) Dahlen of Thief River Falls, MN, Carolyn (Scott) Pahlen of Warroad, MN, Kelly (Brenda) Dahlen of Goodridge, MN, Kevin (special friend, Kathy Opdahl) of Thief River Falls, MN, Donna (special friend Rob Endly) Dahlen of Bloomington, MN, Leah (Michael) Nelson of Madison, WI, and Steven (Ladora) Dahlen of St. Hilaire, MN; 18 grandchildren, Nicole, Stacey, Bobbi Jo, Robby, Jamie, Bryan, Holli, Kristen, Cody, Kasey, Shane, T.J., Taylor, Zachary, Jacob, Erin, Desirae, Elliot; 3 great-grandchildren, MyCayla, Camryn, Ava; brothers and sisters, Bert Orben Good of rural Trail, MN, Archie (Vivian) Wilson of Blythe, CA and Helen Brozio of New Port Richey, FL; special friend, June Thrane of Thief River Falls; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Cheryl; husbands, Erling Dahlen on January 9, 1984 and Gene Englund on December 25, 2001; grandson, Cole Dahlen on June 23, 2005; parents; brothers and sisters, Bertha, Joe, Willie, Myrtle and James.
