Elmer Ducharme, 89, died Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Riverview Hospital, Crookston, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Saturday 28, 2006 at St Josephs Church, Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Tim Bushy presiding. Burial will be at St. Anthony Cemetery, Terrebonne, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church, Saturday.
Elmer Ducharme was born October 18th, 1916 in Red Lake County, MN the son of Rudolph and Cora (Callier) Ducharme. He was raised and attended school in Red Lake County.
Elmer entered active duty in the United States Air Force May 12th, 1948. He served in World War II and the Korean War. He was stationed at the 4041st Bunker Hill Air Force Base in Peru, Indiana. He retired from the Air Force as a sergeant in April of 1963. Elmer then became chief maintenance supervisor in 1963 at the Memorial Hospital in Logansport and worked there until 1977 before retiring. He moved back to Red Lake Falls in 1995 to enjoy his remaining years with family and friends. Elmer lived at Sunview Center after selling his home due to health reasons and then became a resident of Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls prior to his passing.
Elmer had a great sense of humor and was a wonderful, caring person. He loved his family and enjoyed their visits immensely. While in the army Elmer was a man of many talents. He was a jet technician, completed training in management and leadership, and was the master cook for his squad. Elmer also was exceptional at making ice and food sculptures for special events including for a presidential inauguration.
Elmer is survived by two sisters; Emelda (Russell) Thompson of Seattle, WA , Carol (Don) Fontaine of Weslaco, TX , and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Beatrice Desautel and Laura (Martin) Haupt, and brother Jerome Jay Ducharme.
The family of Elmer Ducharme would like to thank all friends and family for their thoughtfulness in their time of need. The family would like any memorials to be given to St. Joseph Church, Hillcrest Nursing Home, or Sunview Dining Center all in Red Lake Falls, MN. Elmer will be deeply missed.
